by the beauty of their pink, white and red double petalled flowers that last about 3 weeks.
There are rootstocks multigrafted with different coloured peach varieties in order to create variegated cultivars that really bring us joy in springtime.
Ornamental flowering peach blossoms are some of the most beautiful flowers coming in bright colors during the arrival of spring. They normally start flowering from the first warmer days of March in Ile de France and are past flowering in April.
You can change your mind and your world just by smiling each time you see flowers
of peach trees in springtime. The ornamental flowering peach blossom during the arrival of spring
is one of the most magnificent sights to behold.
It really does tell us that spring is upon us and remind us of the traditional Spring Têt festival during which peach flowers play a really big part in celebration.
The flowering peach tree is the tree developed specially for its ornamental attritbutes namely its lovely spring blossoms .
Ornamental flowering peach trees are one of the most wonderful signs that Spring
has arrived and they make enchanting addition to your yard .The seasonal flagrane and eye catching flowers can serve as accent point in your landscape .They also provide an illuminating appearance that few shade trees can match.

VERNALIZATION OF ORNAMENTAL FLOWERING PEACH TREES
Flowering peach trees like fruiting trees in the rose family that are native to temperate climate, must undergo an annual process called vernalization .
Vernalization is the induction of plant' flowering process by exposure to the prolonged cold of winter..After vernalization, plants have acquired the ability to flower .
Flowering peach trees grown in temperate climates require vernalization and must experience a period of low winter temperature to initiate or accelerate the flowering process. The
required cold is expressed in chill hours or chilling time. Typical vernalization temperatures are hours below 7 degrees Celsius (45 degrees Fahrenheit).
The prolonged exposure to these temperatures initiates the internal processes that will
produce flowers the following spring.
Excessively cold winter can kill branch tissues and entire peach trees and an insufficient number of cold days (chilling hours) can prevent the formation of any flowers . Even though winter cold is required to produce the springtime flowers.
Peach breeders have developed. peach varieties that have low chill hour requirements resulting in trees that receive only a couple days of chilling weather still able to produce flowers.
Such peach trees are grown where winters are typically too mild for standard peach trees.
Most peach varieties recommended for Paris suburbs have chill hour requirements between 500 and 800 hours.
If your peach tree has a lower chill hour requirement,it accumulates the chill hours for the year and after a few weeks of warm temperature,it is ready to break buds or flower.
When you are selecting peach varieties it is important to keep this in mind, because peach varieties must have chill hour requirements that are appropriate for the area.
Peach buds flowers can be damaged by freeze. Buds can take temperatures as low as
-18 degrees Celsius. Fully open flowers can withstand temperartures in the high 20'.
Chilling time = Minimum number hour requirements below 7 degrees Celsius
( 45 degrees Fahrenheit)
The amount of chilling time for a peach is dependent on the variety grown. Here in Ile de France we normally select peach varieties that require 600 - 800 hours of chilling.
As soon as the chilling requirements are met, the tree will begin to wake up and even bloom during warm periods of last winter before the danger of freeze or frost events has past. That
is why we plant the higher chilling varieties.
Climate continues to strongly influence where peach trees are grown across Ile de France.
Gardeners must take care to cultivate varieties in climates with adequate chilling, but also to protect young shoots and buds from frost damage.
Peach trees need cold weather, but some need fewer chill hours than others. Peach varieties vary greatly in the number of chilling hours : The lower chilling requirement, the earlier the tree will begin growing once temperatures are warm enough. For low chilling requirement varieties, the requirement is quickly met during winter. Once the chilling requirement is met, any warm period during the remainder of the winter will cause peach trees to prematurely bloom and the blossoms will be killed by the next frosty temperature. However for high chilling requirement varieties, if the chilling requirement is not met, trees will bloom very erratically, producing deformed flowers and leaves.
In the fall peach trees lose their leaves and enter a dormant state in order to survive winter. To end dormancy, they require a certain amount of winter cold (the chilling requirements) followed by a certain amount of heat. The chilling requirements vary widely among varieties.
Peach tree varieties with chilling requirements much lower than received at the planting location may end dormancy and bloom early subjecting tree blossoms to freeze damage.
Conversely varieties with chilling requirement much higher than received will suffer delayed weak blooming and leafing.
